The best golf mental game apps

4 apps, real prices, real ratings, and what each one is built to do. Fair warning: I make one of them, so I've put the case against it in writing too.

The 4, in detail

Every app here gets the same treatment: what it's good at, then what's wrong with it.

ZenCaddie

Best for resetting mid-round

Price
$9.99 a year, $49.99 lifetime, 3-day free trial
Runs on
Web, iPhone, Apple Watch

What's good

The only one here with an Apple Watch app, which is what makes an on-course tool usable in a group. The Mid-Round Rescue runs in 30 seconds on the walk to your ball: you tap what went wrong, it picks the breath and the line. The momentum tracker logs your head hole by hole so you can see which 3 holes you lost. Cheapest of the 4 by a wide margin.

What's not

New, with no App Store ratings to check yet. Thinnest library of the group: 21 habits against Imagine Golf's 400+ lessons. No famous names attached, and no big claims about shots saved.

Imagine Golf

Best library, best reviewed

Price
$59.99 a year, $149.99 lifetime, 7-day free trial
Runs on
iPhone, Mac (M1 or later), Apple Vision

What's good

400+ audio classes, a 7-day Gary Player masterclass, and lessons drawn from Harvey Penick's Little Red Book, Ben Hogan's Five Lessons and Tiger Woods' How I Play Golf. 4.9 stars from roughly 7,200 ratings is the strongest social proof in this category by an order of magnitude. The 3-minute Daily Drive is an easy habit to keep.

What's not

It's audio to listen to between rounds, so there's nothing to run on the tee box. No Apple Watch app. At $59.99 a year it's 6 times ZenCaddie's price, and lifetime is $149.99.

Mind Caddie

Best if you want a named coach

Price
$59.99 a year per its App Store listing, 7-day free trial
Runs on
iPhone, iPad, Android

What's good

Built by Karl Morris, performance coach to Open champion Ryan Fox. 100+ audio lessons, guided programs, a digital journal, and an AI version of Morris you can ask questions between rounds. The only app here that runs on Android. Offers a money-back guarantee if you don't improve within 3 months.

What's not

The website doesn't publish a price, which is a strange thing to hide, and the App Store lists a confusing spread of purchase tiers. Advertises an average of 4 shots saved over 2 months, which is the kind of number no app can promise. No Apple Watch app. 147 ratings is a small sample.

Mindful Golf

Best for journaling your rounds

Price
$49.99 a year or $4.99 a week
Runs on
iPhone, iPad, Mac (M1 or later), Apple Vision

What's good

Daily guided lessons, a mental profile assessment that shapes what you get served, round logging with journaling prompts, and in-round audio reset clips. Badges and streaks if gamification keeps you honest.

What's not

Newest of the group and hasn't collected enough App Store ratings to show a score, so there's no track record to check. The $4.99 weekly option works out to about $260 a year, which is a trap if you forget to cancel. No Apple Watch app.

How to pick one

Work out which half of the problem you have. Some golfers don't know what to do with their heads, and some know exactly what to do and can't do it when the card is ruined and the group is waiting.

If it's the first, buy the library. Imagine Golf at $59.99 a year gives you 400 lessons and a Gary Player masterclass, and 7,200 ratings say it delivers. Mind Caddie gives you structured programs from a coach who works with an Open champion.

If it's the second, you want something on the course, and Apple Watch support is the feature that decides whether you'll ever actually use it. ZenCaddie is the only one of these 4 that has it.

Or read Rotella for $15 first, then come back and pick the app that helps you run what he told you. That's the cheapest honest answer on this page.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is the best golf mental game app?

It depends on what's failing. Imagine Golf has the deepest library and the best ratings at 4.9 from about 7,200 reviews, so pick it to learn the mental game. Mind Caddie is best if you want programs from a named tour coach, Karl Morris. ZenCaddie is the one built to run during a round, with a 30-second reset on Apple Watch, and it's the cheapest at $9.99 a year. I built ZenCaddie, so weigh that.

Is there a free golf mental game app?

All 4 apps here are free to download with a paid subscription behind the useful parts. Free trials are 3 days for ZenCaddie and 7 days for Imagine Golf and Mind Caddie. Nothing in this category is meaningfully free forever, though at $9.99 a year ZenCaddie is close to the price of a sleeve of balls.

Which golf mental game app works on Apple Watch?

ZenCaddie is the only one of these 4 with an Apple Watch app. That matters more than it sounds: using a mental tool mid-round means pulling out your phone in front of your playing partners, and most golfers won't. On the wrist it takes 30 seconds and nobody notices.

Do golf mental game apps actually work?

The honest answer is that the tools they teach are real and well-tested, box breathing, pre-shot routines, committing to a target, and the app is just delivery. Mind Caddie advertises an average of 4 shots saved over 2 months. Treat any specific number like that carefully, since none of these apps run controlled trials. What an app does is make you run the routine when you'd otherwise skip it.

How much do golf mental game apps cost?

ZenCaddie is $9.99 a year or $49.99 lifetime, Mindful Golf is $49.99 a year, and Imagine Golf and Mind Caddie both list $59.99 a year, with lifetime options at $149.99 and $124.99. For comparison, a single session with a mental performance coach runs about $150.
